Up of Frida Kahlo
New Workers School, NYC 1933
$ 2400
“At the school, Diego is now starting on the Central
wall. It represents in the center the ‘4th International’. Lenin
is holding in his huge hands the hands of the worker, farmer, peasant and
Negro. Around him are Marx, Engels, Trotsky, and Stalin, looking sneaky
murderous and out of harmony with the rest, and others of all the divisions
of the party. Diego looks at Dimi and I at a distance since we think he
exaggerated Stalin’s lowness. He says Stalin is even worse than that
and won’t be long in the picture. Frida seemed disgusted at me for
thinking Stalin too exaggerated. She sees in that a kind of rebellion towards
Diego.”
